The Chicago Fashion Incubator 2010

I attended the Chicago Fashion Incubator (CFI) at Macy's on State Street launch this past week in support of Miriam Carlson of M.C.C. We met at Justin White's fashion show last spring, and since then she has hit the ground running. Not only was I blessed to have her made-to-order dresses at Verse, she also designed my bridesmaids and reception dresses for my wedding last August. Her designs are current, yet classic with excellent fabric choices to complement her feminine silhouettes.

We were in excellent company with, press, buyers, and fashionistas all in attendance to show their support for the upcoming designers of 2010. Chicago loses out on a lot of their homegrown talent to New York. Hopefully now with the reshaping of the industry we will be fortunate enough to develop a flourishing fashion community.

Genevieve Dimmitt

I love her point of view. Genevieve Dimmit is softening gritty images, and making the pretty beautiful.

Alexander Campaz

Quiet and humble, Alexander Campaz sits in the back of the busy Brooklyn market we had entered. Dez, has this gravitational like pull towards a black batwing sweatshirt. He patiently let us sift through his collection, answering all the questions we had. My mind was racing with all the possible people I could imagine in his handcrafted tees and sweatshirts. He has a playful mix of prints, which he completes him self using the large scale technique. I am looking forward to working with him very, very soon.

Capsule Show 2010

Capsule Show Women's Market was February 22,23 at the Angel Orensanz Center. It just so happened to be one of the grossest days on record with winds and rain coming from every direction. I braved the weather to come to a market that never fails to impress me. Originally Capsule was a market with a focus in Menswear, however this year they added a Womenswear market featuring labels such as Bossert/Schorn , Design House Stockolm, Fifth Avenue Shoe Repair, and W Dressroom. I attended as a trend watcher/buyer/ (this is a new one for me) blogger. The overall tempo was a bit slow, ( I believe the weather had a lot to do with that) but the lines were stronger than ever. Although this season I wasn't placing orders, it was still nice to take note of the lines to look for when I start buying for Verse soon......
