I am in need of a new do'. I am most comfortable with natural hairstyles with a bit of edge. So when I came across these waist grazing braids I fell in love instantly. I am hoping to do it myself, but I think I might just leave this one to a professional. I'll keep you updated.

Art of Noise
I had to search for this song for years. The video is so dope! I used to have a fascination with ice skating. Enough that I actually took classes and got as far as a single axle before I moved on to chess. It gives me such nostalgia from my childhood. It brings be back to a time when my sisters and I were all sleeping in the big bedroom upstairs. We were the last family on the block to install air conditioning, so we would just sleep with the windows open hoping for a breeze. We would talk quietly over the silky R&B playing on the Quiet Storm as our parents sat in the basement doing just the same.
This is a picture out of the window of the room where I have spent the happiest moments of my life with people I love.

Man oh Man!!
A new year, a new day. I am looking forward to see how the world is going to adjust to the current economic situation. I am also looking to see how the fashion industry is going to adjust to the world adjusting to the current economic situation. Many predicted accurately that there would be modifications and many designers did just that. Opting for presentations rather than runway shows. I feel that it is just as effective, and money isn't wasted making clothes simply for runway appeal.
This week Menswear F/W 2010 kicks off in Milan. There is the trade show Pitti Uomo, as well as the shows from Alex McQueen, Etro, John Varvatos ,and Moncler Gamme Bleu. I chose these images from Moncler because I really love a lil' theater in my shows. The concept of young soldiers sleeping in the barracks, and then wake up to a bugle only to dress in functional and crisp outerwear was phenomenal. But I expect nothing less coming from a Thom Browne whose previous runway show for Moncler was viewed poolside.

Elok House by Chang Architects
I try to keep in the loop of any interesting design projects that may actually impress my husband. He is an interior designer and it is quite difficult to find something that may actually get a compliment out of him. I think this house is by far one of the most functional and beautiful urban domains I have ever seen. I will let you know if Ruben agrees.
This house, by Elok House By Chang Architects, is an outcome of an owner’s dream to live in a forest setting amidst the urbanized city of Singapore, and an architect’s interpretations of this dream. The house was conceived as a three-dimensional landscape installation, whereby the spaces were then inserted. The section reveals a series of interchangeable rooms floating in a bigger volume of space. This volume is fitted into a terrace plot with a 2-storey high retaining wall at the rear, which was transformed into a pebbled waterfall that opens up to the sky. Below, a pond that collects rainwater encompasses the living area. -V.A.
Rio Fashion Week 2010
I had to really dig for coverage of Fashion Week in Rio Jan. 9th . Some of the designers are Claudia Simoes, Walter Rodrigues, Cantao, and Maria Bonita Extra. There was a few common trends; colors, legs, even colors on legs. Brazil has such a vibrant culture and that was truly interpreted through each collection. Even black was used, the make-up reflected the tribal roots of the country. I hope in the coming seasons we will see more coverage of the up and coming designers of Latin America.

Os olhos del montes
Brazil from Alexis MAGZALCI on Vimeo.I was looking for video footage that would capture the beauty of Brazil since this past week was Fashion Week in Rio. I ran across this video which focuses on the favela Moro de Providencia in Rio. It really takes you through the neighborhood first hand, capturing the living spaces and more importantly the faces of the people.

Heal Fashion Lab
I always appreciate a playful approach to womenswear. However there is a fine line between playful and costume-like. Heal Fashion Lab makes wearing a lobster on the front of your dress chic, but not by applying just heat transferred graphic. They go in to elaborate detail in their appliques as well as the silhouette. Wow, I hate to admit it, but I'm actually hungry. Catch ya later!

Blake Wright
I came across Blake Wright on helloooooo.com where he did a few illustrations for the site. The ones that caught my attention were the ones involving skulls. I usually have an aversion to skulls, as I find them spooky. The only skulls that I can seem to tolerate are those Jose Guadalupe Posada depicting El Dia De Los Muertos, however we are forced to endure skull graphics by the likes of Ed Hardy, and any tee worn by Mike "the Situation", Pauly D, or Ronnie. But his drawings were presented in such a cool and cheeky way, that I just couldn't help myself.
